Kapula ceramics, crockery and candles from South Africa - lovingly made by hand! The fair trade company Kapula was founded by Ilse Appelgryn, who had learnt how to make candles from her mother. She initially employed four other women and named the company Kapula Candles. The first Kapula Gallery was opened for sale in 1999. The company grew in a relatively short time until it employed around 200 people. In 2000, the founder received the "Western Cape Entrepreneur of the Year" award for the company from the Black Management Forum. The product range has been constantly expanded and, in addition to the colourful candles, also includes hand-painted ceramics such as plates, cups, coasters and bowls. The various ceramic design lines are all dishwasher-safe and microwave-safe.
