Chako Zanzibar is the first company on the island of Zanzibar to become a recognised member of the World Fair Trade Organization (WFTO)! The company is based in the capital Stone Town, which is mainly known as a tourist magnet. As the number of holidaymakers increased, so did the rubbish problem on the small island. Chako Zanzibar has made a virtue of necessity and uses mainly used glass (wine bottles etc.), which is collected locally, for the manufacture of its unique product range such as lamps, lights, candlesticks and much more. At the same time, Chako offers its 14 permanent employees and the external artisan groups on the island of Zanzibar economic opportunities!
